THE STORY BEHIND THE MUSIC
A fictional character whose story becomes music.
Icer volunteers for an experimental government program in exchange for his family’s safety. It transforms him into a being who is part human, part machine. He protects the people he loves, but loses much of his humanity in the process.
Icer’s Theme gives that sacrifice a musical voice. The contrast between human feeling and mechanical transformation runs through both versions: the intimacy of piano and orchestra, and the force of electronic music.
A motif is a short musical idea that returns throughout a piece. In Icer’s Theme, a recurring three-note piano melody represents the part of Icer that remains human.
Listen for that melody in the Orchestral Mix. As electronic textures emerge toward the end, the piano keeps his humanity present. The sound changes around him, while the motif holds on to who he is.
